Atlas Copco ZS screw blower significantly reduces energy consumption for leading biochemical manufacturer

When Hangzhou Bioking Biochemical Engineering Co., Ltd. began looking for a new energy efficient roots blower for its waste water treatment process, the company turned to Atlas Copco for a solution and installed a ZS series blower that saves them RMB 35,000 per month.

Searching for a solution
During the L(+)-tartaric acid manufacturing process, the energy consumed by the aeration blowers during this process accounts for 70% of the total energy used during waste water treatment. Previously, Bioking used a competitive root blower that was inefficient, noisy and had a high exhaust temperature. Mr. Zhang Shen, Deputy General Manager at Bioking, began searching for a more energy efficient and reliable alternative, and he found the solution – the Atlas Copco ZS series blower – at IE EXPO 2013.

ZS blowers – proven energy efficiency
Designed, manufactured and tested in accordance with ISO 9001 certification, Atlas Copco ZS series blowers meet the highest standards for quality and reliability.

Energy costs can amount to 80% of the lifecycle costs of a blower. The ZS range reduces energy costs by an average of 30% when compared to lobe technology. The integrated variable speed drive (VSD) technology offers extra energy savings by automatically tuning the compressed air flow to precisely meet air demand. Compared to lobe technology, screw technology does not require belt and pulley replacement, which reduces maintenance costs and increases uptime.

At the end of 2013, Bioking put a ZS 90 VSD blower into operation, replacing its three original roots blowers. In the first six months, the blower proved to be extremely reliable, operating with reduced noise levels and offering outstanding energy savings. The data collected so far reveals that the blower saves approximately RMB35,000 per month, which indicates that return on investment is possible in an year.
