Qinghai Haixi Boao Engineering Company Ltd. is the first customer of DML diesel engine driven rotary drilling rig of Atlas Copco in Muli area of Qinghai province. Its successful operation in Muli Coal Mine has created a new standard of high drilling efficiency and low operation cost for customers at high altitude.

DML rotary drill rig moves into plateau

DML diesel engine driven rotary drill rig of Atlas Copco

Qinghai Haixi Boao Engineering Company Ltd. is the first customer of DML diesel engine driven rotary drilling rig of Atlas Copco in Muli area of Qinghai province. Its successful operation in Muli Coal Mine has created a new standard of high drilling efficiency and low operation cost for customers at high altitude.

This DML is diesel engine driven rig with appropriate power package. The optimized power package can meet the power output on plateau, ensure the high drilling efficiency and save a lot of operation cost for customers. DML drill rig is configured with heating components in cold climate so as to guarantee its normal starting in winter and increase its availability. Atlas Copco has established parts warehouse and service station in Qinghai Muli open-pit coal mine, thus providing a rapid supply of spare parts and in time after-service.

Efficiency power package ensure the penetration rate

Optimized compressor option can guarantee the penetration rate. The hardness of rock in Muli Coal Mine is no greater than F10 with a bench height of only 10 m and subdrilling of 1 m, therefore technicians from Atlas Copco drew the following conclusion based on calculation: specific to the hole diameter of 200 mm, air compressor of 1200cfm@7.6Bar is configured to guarantee a sufficient uphole velocity.

Besides, proper annular clearance is also another important factor for penetration rate. The diameter of onsite drill rod is 140 mm and the annular clearance reaches to 30 mm for each side.  The cutting is of nutty structure with sharp corners, indicating the drill rig produces less repeated crushing and the large cutting can be smoothly discharged.

The penetration rate is about 50m/h, far more than that of similar machine. Mr. Cao Zhanqiang, the General Manager of Muli Coal Mine with years of machine management experience, said with satisfaction “The rotary drill rig of Atlas Copco has brought about a new revolution to the mining industry in alpine region with its high efficiency. The drill rig not only apparently enhanced our production, but also greatly reduced our operation cost.”

The satisfaction from customers is the motivation for the progress of Atlas Copco.  We believe the rotary drilling rigs including CDM75, DML and CDM30, which are customized for high altitude by Atlas Copco will continue to bring the customers more surprise!
