Atlas Copco Provides Bosch with Life Cycle Management Solution to Create “Green Factory, Green Production and Green Life”

Taking Bosch Automotive Diesel Systems Co, Ltd. Wuxi Plant as an example. The plant mainly produces electric high-pressure diesel injection system. It has 3 air compressor stations, using 14 Atlas Copco compressors, including GA250, 355, 315, ZR and AQ series. To achieve the targets of energy saving and obtain the most energy efficiency of compressors, Atlas Copco provided Bosch Diesel with comprehensive life cycle cost management solutions based on its production procedures, compressor quantities and distribution, etc. Life cycle cost management is a solution that Atlas Copco develops to help customers manage costs in operating air compressors. According to statistics, the operation cost of air compressor is about 85% of its life cycle cost. The solution tailored for Bosch Diesel includes energy recovery, data inspection, system optimization, maintenance schedule and other components.

First of all, energy recovery solution: According to the user’s demand for heat energy and existing air compressors, 5 ER systems are installed. Heat originally sent into the circumstance is collected through the systems and used to heat pure water required by parts and components in production, air conditioners in purification workshops, and water for domestic use in the factory area to largely reduce the demand for steam. In fact, above 90% of axial power of the compressor is eventually transformed into heat energy dismissed into the surrounding environment. Now with the use of Atlas Copco energy recovery system, above 75% of electric inputs are recycled in form of hot water, which has no negative impact on compressor performance.

Atlas Copco also provided Bosch with ES360 Internet remote monitoring and centralized control and optimization system (Air Optimizer™). Air Optimizer™ is specially designed for users running a series of compressors. By allocating operation of each compressor in the control system in accordance with total consumption of compressed air, the system can largely reduce the time of idle operation without load. At the same time, accurate control of pressure can help lower pressure on piping network to save as much as 30% of energy.
“At present, the life cycle solution that Atlas Copco provided for Bosch not only effectively realized energy saving and emission reduction in production, but also brought returns on investment for the company. The ER system saves about 1600 tons of coal each year and reduces emission of about 945 tons of carbon dioxide, equivalent to RMB 350000 Yuan. Investment on the equipment has been recovered in less than 2 years. Air Optimizer™ saves 11% of energy consumed by air compressors, reduces emission of about 425 tons of carbon dioxide and saves about RMB 400000 Yuan of electricity cost each year. The preliminary investment has been recovered in less than 1 year,” said Mr. Cai Jun, Director of Engineering of Bosch Diesel Wuxi Plant, “The life cycle solution tailored for Bosch by Atlas Copco ensures stable and reliable equipment operation while saving energy and reducing emission, thus winning our trust! What’s more, our plant in Wuxi has met with LEED certification green building standards.
