Yunnan Tin Company Group Limited (hereinafter referred to as YT), a century-old industry, is the largest production and manufacturing base in the world for metal Tin and the largest production center for tin profiles, tin chemicals and arsenic chemicals in China. It is also the biggest precious metals research and development center in China.

Cooperation between Altas Copco and YT started in 2004 when YT planned to replace old air compressor equipment that failed to meet capacity requirement. Altas Copco stood out the competition among various famous domestic and foreign air compressor equipment brands in the bidding. Over recent ten years’ cooperation, Altas Copco air compressors have won recognition and trust from YT with their high performance, high stability as well as excellent after-sales service. In 2007, YT chose 54 excellent suppliers from more than a thousand candidates and Atlas Copco is among the “top ten material suppliers”. At present, there are more than 100 Altas Copco air compressors operating in YT, accounting for 90% of all YT’s air compressors.

Song Mine, YT’s largest mining base, now is using 100% Atlas Copco air compressors to provide power for its tin ore mining. There’re total 29 GA500, GA250, GA110 and GA55 oil-injected screw compressors as well as ES130 Internet remote monitoring and optimal centralized control system in Song Mine. Mr. Guang Gu, chief of equipment division of Song Mine said, “Ore extraction raises high performance requirement for air compressors. It not only requires air compressors to run at full load for a long period of time, but also requests air compressors to endure the demanding tests of the underground wet environment, high temperatures and dust. Atlas Copco air compressor equipment has displayed excellent performance and super high stability since it was put into use, which is the key to our choice of Atlas Copco.”

Engineered for reliable service, even in ambient temperatures up to 55°C/131°F and very harsh environmental circumstances, the GA takes reliability to a new level. At the same time, GA series compressors have established a new standard of environmental protection and energy conservation. The newly designed screw rotors reduce energy demand by 5%-6%, which makes contributions to environmental protection while saving customers expenses!

ES optimization system is specially designed for users running a series of compressors. By allocating operation of each compressor in the control system in accordance with total consumption of compressed air, the system can largely reduce the time of idle operation without load. At the same time, accurate control of pressure can help lower pressure on piping network to save as much as 30% of energy. The remote monitoring system can even transmit all operation parameters and information to the customer’s monitoring terminal through the communication module. In doing so, the user sitting inside the office can have a clear look at air compressor in operated to easily management multiple compressors in operation 

“In December, 2012, monthly digging of 464.3 meters was completed at Song Mine, creating the new record throughout the whole group. This record cannot be created without the high efficiency of Atlas Copco air compressors, especially the compressed air system solutions designed according to the characteristics of Song Mine’s actual work. Besides, Atlas Copco specially arranged for permanent service engineers for the purposes of timely handling, repair, debugging and maintenance so as to guarantee production schedule and free customers from any worry” Chief Gu continued.

At the beginning of providing solutions to YT, Atlas Copco designed GA series compressors with an input voltage level of 6KV and pressure of 7bar according to the characteristics of demand for air compressors in the mining industry. Considering the different environments on the ground and underground, compressors on the ground are mainly large-scale GA500/250 compressors and compressors underground are mainly small GA110 air-cooling oil-injected screw compressors with short gas transmission pipelines due to space limitation. There is still air filter function which can effectively protect the core components of air compressors from high dust environments. Since YT is located in highland area with atmospheric pressure lower than normal, Atlas Copco designed and selected the compressors with proper motor power to avoid air inadequacy caused by reduced motor performance due to low atmospheric pressure.

“At present, YT group is facing a rapid growing period, increasing investment in mining and improving efficiency, YT expects to realize an annual production value of 100 billion yuan in the next five years. Xishan mount has over one hundred years worth of exploitation reserves, and the cooperation between YT and Altas Copco will last long” Chief Gu summarized.

Besides GA series oil-injected screw compressors, YT started purchasing efficient mining equipment such as Boomer, Boltec tunnel & drift rigs, scooptrams, Diamec underground core drilling rigs and etc equipments from Atlas Copco Mining and Rock Excavation Technique in 2012.
