Atlas Copco ROC L8 Reverse Circulation Drill rig in Wunugetu Mountain
In July 2011, China Gold Inner Mongolia Mining Co., Ltd. introduced the first unit Atlas Copco ROC L8 reverse circulation hydraulic drill rig, pioneered the domestic application of reverse circulation drill rig, and established a new coordinate for dry sampling in China.
The copper-molybdenum deposit project in Wunugetu Mountain developed and constructed by China Gold Inner Mongolia Mining Co., Ltd. as its key project is about 22km from the center of Manzhouli City, wherein the area of the mining area is 9.8sq.km., the metal reserves of copper is 2.67 million tons, the metal reserve of molybdenum is 540,000 tons, and the mining area is the fourth largest copper-molybdenum associated deposit of China. When Phase II of the project is put into formal production, the ore quantity for daily processing of China Gold Inner Mongolia Mining Co., Ltd. will reach 75,000 tons, with an annual copper output of 60,000 tons and molybdenum output of 13,000 tons, and the Wunugetu Mountain will become an important copper and molybdenum production base in northern China.
The reverse circulation sampling plays an important role
ROC L8 drill rig, a multi-functional drill rig, proven and used by majority of users of Atlas Copco, is widely applicable to a variety of applications of surface mining and quarry, and it is much more flexible than traditional drill rigs applied to the surface mining and quarry. The drill rig not only can reduce the boulder yield after the blasting through accurate straight holes, but also can accelerate the peeling speed of the ore by means of section combination, presplitting blasting and slope angle increase, and reduce the excavation of waste rock. As the highlight of the drill rig, the reverse circulation system can help the effective control for the dilution ratio of the mine and the confirmation for the final boundary of the ore body. When we talked about the original intention for the selection of the drill rig, Zhao Chunbo, the manager of technical department of China Gold Inner Mongolia Mining Co., Ltd. said: “the reverse circulation system of Atlas Copco ROC L8 drill rig can help us to control ore dilution to reduce the cost of ore beneficiation, guide the operation plan of open pit stripping and mining, facilitate the secondary delineation of ore boundary and the upgrade for the reserve of the first mining segment to reasonably develop and use mineral resources and improve the comprehensive benefits of the mine.”
In addition, the copper-molybdenum deposit of Wunugetu Mountain is located in a high latitude zone belonging to a drought-type cool temperature zone with perennial water depletion, and therefore the dry drilling method of the ROC L8 reverse circulation drill rig can effectively solve the problem of the mine in drilling and sampling in anhydrous conditions.
High comprehensive drilling efficiency
The copper-molybdenum deposit of Wunugetu Mountain belongs to a porphyry type copper-molybdenum deposit, in which the grades of copper and molybdenum are 0.46% and 0.053%, respectively. In order to control the morphology of the ore body and prevent the reduction of the grade, China Gold Inner Mongolia Mining Co., Ltd. reduced the original investigation scope of 100×100m to 50×50m, in which the borehole diameter is 140mm, the drilling depth is 30m, the rock powder is taken for every 3m, and the amount of the powder taken from each hole is about 3.5 to 4.5% of the total rock powder generated therein. According to the introduction of Li Xuefeng, the leader of drilling team of technical department of China Gold Inner Mongolia Mining Co., Ltd., the current accumulative drilling time of the ROC L8 reverse circulation applied to the copper-molybdenum deposit of Wunugetu Mountain is 162h, the total drilling depth is 4673m, the comprehensive drilling efficiency is about 27.8m/h, the net drilling efficiency is 38.7m/h, which is nearly double of the net drilling efficiency of about 20m/h of domestic air reverse circulation sampling and drilling machine.
For durability of the drill rig, the performance of Atlas Copco is also outstanding. China Gold Inner Mongolia Mining Co., Ltd. prepared original double-wall drill pipes, drill bits and RC50 impactors which are produced by Atlas Copco for the ROC L8 reverse circulation drill rig. At present, 4673m of the drill pipes and impactors which can be used sequentially have been used, which almost exceeds the average service life of about 3000m for the domestic ordinary drill pipe and impactor of 3000 to 5000m in the similar rock conditions, and fully reflects the excellent quality and ultralong service life for the reverse circulation of Atlas Copco.
In addition to maintenance, operation skills of the operator also have significant effect on the use of the drill rig. Since the introduction of the ROC L8 reverse circulation drill rig in the last year, the six operators for the copper-molybdenum deposit of Wunugetu Mountain have received the professional training from Atlas Copco, and therefore their operation skill and production efficiency are effectively improved, and the commitment of Atlas Copco ‘devoted to provide the customer with sustainable productivity’ is reflected.
