Atlas Copco Specialty Rental ensures continuous 100% oil-free compressed air for Nokia's Dongguan factory.

Nokia is a global leader in mobile communication. Located in the Dongguan South City Science & Technology Industrial Park, Dongguan Nokia Mobile Phones Co., Ltd. was established by Nokia (China) Investment Co., Ltd. with a total investment of 129 million US dollars to produce various digital mobile phones and provide relevant after services.

The Dongguan plant uses three Atlas Copco ZT145 100% oil-free screw compressors as a power source for pneumatic equipment in the plant. Following expansion and completion of the phase II workshops, the working area has been doubled with the new production facilities situated next to the original workshops. The new production lines also use these three air compressors, which are operating at full capacity. The problem that Nokia faced was that while the production line was being tested and put into operation and before the new compressors could arrive at the workshop, if the existing compressors stopped, the production would be affected. To order to prevent loss of production, this potential problem needed to be avoided.

After hearing about this problem, a salesman from the Atlas Copco Rental Department for Southern China contacted the Shenzhen Branch of Siemens Electronics Assembly Systems Ltd which provided the supportive production line for Nokia in order to provide a detailed solution for the problem – by using a PTS916 machine from Atlas Copco Specialty Rental Department as temporary solution for the production line.

Nokia recognized that Atlas Copco's 100% oil-free air compressor enjoys a great reputation in the industry and was very pleased to adopt our solution. The Specalty Rental dartment considered all details of the required service and operation. To prevent any possible fault with the temporary machines, the latest PTS916 was sent to the site in Dongguan. And before the shipment when Larry Hrynkiewicz, a technical expert from Atlas Copco Prime Energy, was providing technical training in the warehouse, we invited Larry to check the machine completely to ensure that the machinese were working perfectly. On April 13, 2008, the temporary system for providing air for the production lines was installed on the site.

This project has been of great importance to the Specialty Rental Department, so much so that Tammy Tsang, Manager of the Specialty Rental Department paid a special trip to the site to guide the work on site and visit the customer. In order to ensure that we could respond to customer requirements in time, the Specialty Rental Department even specially trained and arranged an operator to stationed on the lease site in order to provide “24/ 7” service. The project is expected to be completed in October 2008.

The establishment of the Atlas Copco (Shanghai) Rental Co., Ltd was driven by a desire to meet customer needs at all times. The company aims to provide rental services for oil-free air compressors, such as PTS and ZT models, which have has achieved TUV certification and satisfied ISO 8573-1 Class 0 air standards. During the past 6 years, by leveraging the advantages of Atlas Copco brands and sharing resources, Atlas Copco's Specialty Rental business has developed well in China.
