Atlas Copco’s FlexiROC D65 Makes New Contributions to Wengfu Phosphate Mine
With the global mining sector remaining sluggish in 2015, China’s mining sector also faced a “perfect storm” of difficulties—falling prices, heightened costs and plunging profits. In such a turbulent market environment, the Wengfu Phosphate Mine under Wengfu Group boldly adopted FlexiROC D65 down-the-hole surface drill rigs to improve production efficiency and reduce operating costs, adding a new weapon to its arsenal for battling mining sector blues.
In recent years, Wengfu Phosphate Mine has endeavored constantly to promote modernized mine construction and transition from being an “independently operated” mine to a “technical management” type of mine. Perforated blasting occupies an obviously important place as the first link of the whole mining process. Contractors are required to complete production tasks based on a schedule, so efficiency requirements for drilling equipment are especially high. Equipment needs to be able to complete urgent production tasks at any time. According to Zhao Mingxing, deputy production director for the Chuanyandong mine, there are six Atlas Copco FlexiROC D65 down-the-hole surface drill rigs in the mine, three of which were purchased in 2015. These rigs are owned by different contractors and have made great contributions to safe and efficient production at the mine.
Rock hardness at the Chuanyandong mine is F=8, and a top-to-bottom bench blasting method is adopted. Detailed parameters include: bench height, 12m; extra depth, 1.5m; hole depth, 13.5m; hole diameter, 203mm; drilling angle, 90°; and hole net dimensions: 6×7m. Since Mr. Li’s FlexiROC D65 went into operation on June 1, 2015, it has achieved total drilling footage of 76,000m; the engine has had 2,295 hours of total run time, with an impact time of 1,485 hours; and the integrated drilling efficiency and net drilling efficiency are 33m/h and 51m/h respectively. Under optimal conditions, the rig has drilled 80 holes in 24 hours, with maximum drilling efficiency of up to 45m/h.
In discussing future development, Li said that given the sustained sluggishness in the mining market, mining enterprises have to invest more carefully, and only providers of reliable products and quality services, like Atlas Copco, can become trustworthy partners. “It’s Atlas Copco that has given us the courage and strength to push forward when the market is at a low ebb. We will work together and jointly embrace the industry’s promising future.”
