Atlas Copco received Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) award in China

Shanghai, China, March 7, 2012: Atlas Copco received the “Partnership Award” at the 7th Annual AmCham (The American Chamber of Commerce in China) Shanghai CSR Awards Ceremony today, for outstanding contributions to Chinese society for its innovative CSR programs and initiatives.

It is the seventh year that the AmCham CSR Awards has honored the best corporate citizens in China. Atlas Copco was declared as the winner in the 2012 “Partnership Award” category together with Plan China, an international NGO, together with which Atlas Copco has been implementing “Water for All” programs in China.

Atlas Copco also received Honorable Mentioning in the “Corporate Community Involvement Award” category for “outstanding community service programs” and “a corporate vision that supports and honors employee volunteer efforts”.

Magnus Gyllo, Vice President of Atlas Copco (China) Investment Co., Ltd. accepted the awards on behalf of the company. The award further recognizes Atlas Copco’s efforts and commitment in supporting CSR projects as well as humanitarian needs.

“We are extremely glad to have received this prestigious award. Atlas Copco is dedicated to contributing to Chinese economic and social development, and has accordingly a responsibility to manage its business in an environmentally sound manner”, said Magnus Gyllo. “Atlas Copco in China has a long history of engagement in the Chinese society, with focus in three main areas: providing educational support for underprivileged children, providing clean drinking water for people in poor rural areas, and natural disaster support.”

Founded in 1984 by Atlas Copco employees in Sweden, the “Water for All” organization is devoted to the motto “People, especially children, have the right to access clean drinking-water and grow up in safe and clean environment”. Employees donate money to support the projects and the company doubles the amount donated.

In 2011, Atlas Copco, together with Plan China, completed a water, environment and sanitation project in ten villages in northern China’s Longde County, Ning Xia Province, where harsh conditions have been made even more difficult by the lack of clean drinking water. The project affected 15,187 people, 3,708 of whom are children.

The annual “AmCham CSR Awards” focus in the areas of CSR strategy, organization governance, fair operation and workplace practices, and environmental and social impact. Winners were selected from more than 60 top multinational companies by an international Judging Panel, with representatives from Government and Academic organizations including the Harvard Business School in USA.
