Atlas Copco launches drilling solution for large-diameter pile foundation

2016-04-26

April 26th, 2016, Shanghai, China: Atlas Copco introduced large-diameter DTH hammers at the China International Piling and Deep Foundations Summit (CIPDFS). The new products provide ideal drilling solution for large-diameter deep foundation piles.

The 6th CIPDFS was designed to enhance communication and cooperation on innovative technologies and efficient construction techniques for pile foundations and deep foundation pits in China. With China’s pile consumption now among the highest in the world, the focus of this year’s summit—jointly organized by the International Association of Deep Foundation Engineering and Shanghai Society of Civil Engineering—was on how to introduce cutting-edge science and techniques into China to solve all sorts of pile foundation engineering challenges.

By integrating its rich drilling experience and the results of iron and steel performance research into the development of innovative DTH hammers, Atlas Copco has created effective tools specifically for large-diameter pile foundation drilling: QL200, QL300 and cluster DTH hammer. Drilling diameters of QL series range from 440 to 3000 mm, and the hammers can be installed on equipment like auger drills, pile machines or cranes, for pile foundation drilling construction with large diameters in engineering works such as roads, bridges, wharves, tall buildings, hydropower stations, nuclear power plants, municipal utility tunnels, and so on. The QL200 and QL300 can also be used in fields like deep well drilling in coal mine rescue work and deep drilling of air shafts.

Mr. Mark Lee, Business Line Manager of Rock Drilling Tool of Atlas Copco’s Mining and Rock Excavation Technique business area, shared the firm’s successful experience with its large-diameter DTH hammers in pile foundation drilling applications. These creative technologies and the case stories of highly effective and stable drilling applications attracted extensive attention and struck a responsive chord among industry representatives present.

“Our large-diameter DTH hammers and cluster hammers provide ideal solutions for efficiently drilling large-diameter pile foundation holes, and offer efficient and sustainable solutions for domestic construction of tunnels and infrastructure such as bridges and roads,” Mr. Mark Lee said, “Atlas Copco will continue to introduce innovative pile foundation drilling techniques to assist the development of China’s pile foundation field.”
