Atlas Copco and ATLAS Cooperate in Breaker Production

On April 30, 2010, Atlas Copco and Atlas Construction Machinery Co., Ltd. (ATLAS) sign strategic partnership agreement in Baotou. Mr. Freddy Man, General Manager of Atlas Copco Construction and Mining Technique Customer Center Greater China, Mr. Eric Yi, Key Account Manager of Atlas Copco Construction Tools, Mr. Dong Jie, General Manager, and Mr. Li Quansheng, Vice General Manager, of  ATLAS attend the signing ceremony.

The high speed economic growth in China drives the development of a series of industries including highway and railway construction, water conservancy, quarrying, mining, and real estate development etc. Large scale development and construction become powerful stimulus to the market demand of excavators. In 2008, the Chinese government carried out the 4 trillion RMB stimulus investment plan, which further boosts excavator sales. The sales volume of hydraulic excavators soars from near 50,000 units in 2007 to over 90,000 units in 2009. The ever increasing market demands have accelerated the upgrading of product technology and made more and more machinery manufacturers shift their production and R&D priorities to excavators and excavator parts.

Atlas Copco is a world leading provider of industrial solutions. The Construction Tools division under Atlas Copco Construction and Mining Technique business area has six production facilities in countries including Germany, Sweden, and China etc. and has distribution companies in more than 60 countries. In 2002, Atlas Copco acquired Krupp, a German company, and got Krupp’s breaker products. Hydraulic breakers now have become one of the most important products that Atlas Copco Construction Tools market in China and the world.
In terms of hydraulic attachments, Atlas Copco has the most complete product line in the world, including heavy, medium, and small hydraulic breakers. Atlas Copco breakers use combined gas/oil power and are both powerful and highly flexible with regard to oil flow rate and pressure. Technically advanced percussion mechanism, e.g. with long piston stroke and vibration reduction, contributes to their excellent performance. Their operating weight ranges from 55kg to 10,000kg and they may be installed on carriers that weigh 1-140 tons. Effective dust protection, reliable lubrication, noise and vibration damping, and good control technology, make Atlas Copco breakers ideal for road work, trenching, general demolition, primary and secondary breaking in quarries.
Atlas Maschinen GmbH, a world famous excavator manufacturer, is the birthplace of the first hydraulic excavator in the world and has five production facilities around the globe. China ATLAS, located in Baotou with a land area of near 320,000 m2, has 52,000 m2 of modern production workshops and world advanced production lines of hydraulic excavator. China ATLAS mainly produces and markets 20-36-ton level world advanced hydraulic excavators with bucket volume between 0.8 and 1.9 m3. Major models include 2006LC, 2306LC, and 3306LC. These excavators have the characteristics of advanced performance, unique technology, high power, low fuel consumption, high productivity, and low operation cost and can be extensively used in mining and construction.
The signing of the strategic partnership agreement turns a new leaf in the breaker production cooperation between the two sides. It is more of an association between two industrial giants than a mutual complement in product advantages. The signing will further strengthen the communication between the two sides, expand their cooperation space, and play a positive role in promoting the sustainable development of the industry of excavators and hydraulic attachments.
