Atlas Copco Builds Distribution Center for Southeast Asia in China

On September 15, 2010, the Ground Breaking Ceremony of Atlas Copco Construction & Mining Technique Distribution Center Southeast Asia is held in Nanjing. This is another new action following the establishment of the new facility in Nanjing in 2009 and will open a new leaf for Atlas Copco’s development strategy in China.
Many distinguished guests attend the ceremony, including Mr. Shen Jian, Permanent Member of the CPC Nanjing Committee and Executive Deputy Mayor of Nanjing, Mr. Liang Jiancai, District Chief of Qixia, Nanjing and Director of the Administration Committee of Nanjing Economic and Technological Development Zone, Mr. Bjorn Rosengren, Senior Executive Vice President of Atlas Copco AB and Business Area President Atlas Copco Construction and Mining Technique, Mr. Thomas Kung, Chairman of Atlas Copco (China) Investment Co., Ltd. There are also more than 100 other guests including officials from Nanjing municipal government and development zones of Nanjing and staff members of Atlas Copco.
"Thank you very much for attending the ground breaking ceremony of Atlas Copco Construction and Mining Technique Distribution Center Southeast Asia,” said Mr. Bjorn Rosengren excitedly. “As a matter of fact, I was here but a hundred meters away last year, inaugurating our new facilities for Customer Centre & Production Company. After only one year, I am here in Nanjing again for another celebration. Today, the construction of a 4, 000 square meter facility for our new distribution center will be started. We will establish a supply chain to support global sourcing – supporting production in Europe and USA from here. Meanwhile our customers will benefit from improvements in storage and shipping capabilities for spare parts and consumables in the Southeast Asia market.”
Atlas Copco CMT Asia Distribution Center is another strategic investment by the Group based on the rapid business growth in China and other Asian countries. The construction of a 4,000 square meter facility, is a direct result of the strategy to strengthen Atlas Copco´s support to its customers in Greater China (mainland China + Hong Kong + Taiwan) and South East Asia region (Thailand, South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam and Philippines), and brings the potential to serve India and Indonesia in future. Customers will benefit from improvements in storage and shipping capabilities for spare parts and consumables in the Southeast Asian market. The total investment for the Center is about RMB 50 Million yuan.
The location of the Center is a result of superior logistical conditions provided by the city of Nanjing, as well as the proximity to existing Construction and Mining operations in Nanjing. It is also a fulfillment of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by Mr. Ronnie Leten, Atlas Copco Chief Executive Officer, and the Mayor of Nanjing, Mr. Ji Jianye, earlier this year.
Atlas Copco established its company in China in 1993. Before that, Atlas Copco products appeared in China from the 1920s and was traded through distributors., With the support from our clients, partners and the Chinese Government over the years, Atlas Copco today have 20 companies in China employing more than 3,600 peoples all around China. Atlas Copco (Nanjing) Construction and Mining Equipment Ltd. is, in fact, the first factory for construction and mining technique business in China. 15 years ago, the factory was only producing one product. Today, we are producing 15 different models here at two sites. These products are primarily supplied to the China market and some are exported to the international market.
The ceremony marks another milestone of our development in China, in terms of our product range and our parts & services to the market. This decision shows our strong commitment to our customers in Southeast Asia region, and is another step to fulfill our ambition to strongly develop our business and continue to be First in Mind, First in Choice in the region.
China has been eye-catching for its development over the last decade and is right under the spotlight now and keeping up well while there are many countries having difficult times in the global financial crisis. According to the recent economic statistics of the Chinese Government, the GDP growth of China in the first half of 2010 was 11.1%, greatly contributed by the domestic consumption. “For domestic consumption, construction and mining are the basic driving elements, especially in China where there is a big population and a vast land. Most of us here are related to construction and mining activities directly or indirectly. So there are great opportunities of all of us to be involved in this process,” says Mr. Bjorn Rosengren.
"I hereby wish the construction and mining industry in China as well as the economy in Nanjing can enjoy long term and sustainable development and I can ensure you that Atlas Copco will participate and contribute to the development,” says Mr. Thomas Kung finally.
