Underground Mining Tools Seminar

May 8, 2009, URE CC GC CMT of Atlas Copco held the Underground Mining Method & Equipment Seminar with the theme of “Listening, Sharing, and Developing”, which was a part of the event held in Nanjing, China of the 15th Anniversary Celebration of Atlas Copco (Nanjing) Construction and Mining Equipment Ltd. and the Inauguration of New Facility of Customer Center & Product Company
Mr. Patrik Nolaker, President of Atlas Copco Rock Drills AB, and Mr. Steven Tan, Business Line Manager of URE CC GC CMT, attended the seminar. More than 90 representatives of URE customers from around the country, including Mr. Hao Shuhua, General Manager of Shougang Group Mining Company, Mr. Qi Jianzhong, manager from Jinchuan Group, Mr. Li Yixiang, Vice General Manager of Banshi Mining Company of Tonggang Group, and URE staff attended the seminar.
“Despite the global financial crisis, Atlas Copco has invited so many customers to such a grand opening celebration which proves Atlas Copco’s strength and determination to remain committed to the mining and construction industries in China. We firmly believe, Atlas Copco will grow stronger while supporting the development of mining and construction in China,” said Mr. Patrik Nolaker in the seminar. Mr. Steven Tan also pointed out that despite the serious consequences of the financial crisis, the sales between January and April this year has been increased compared with the same period of last year. High quality products, considerate after market service and good customer relations guarantee the success of Atlas Copco.
URE Division also had the honor to have Professor Sun Huoran of Northeast University to lecture in the seminar. Aiming at the characteristics of underground base metal mines, such as high production volume, large land occupation, difficult resident relocation, and high environment pressure, Professor Sun expounded several large scale mining methods in the seminar including sublevel caving, natural caving and sublevel open stoping etc. He pointed out that the caving mining methods extensively used in domestic mines have their innate shortcomings, such as high ore loss and dilution, ground subsidence, and the need of tailings dams etc. The sublevel open stoping may eliminate these shortcomings very well. Application of Large DTH underground drills and loaders may further increase the height of the middle section, enhance the mining intensity and lower the costs. Tailings backfill may reduce mined out zones and ground subsidence and help realize waste-free mining, which is very important to the environment. South Zone of Sijiaying Iron Mine, Zhonguan Iron Mine, Lilou Iron Mine, and many other iron mines under development in China will use this mining method.
Mr. Mont Kan, Product Manager of URE, using multimedia means, introduced modern underground mining equipment of Atlas Copco to the audience, including Boomer, Scooptram, Minetruck, Boltec, Cabletec, Scaletec, and Robbins etc. and made the audience completely understand the excellent performance and the human-oriented design concepts of Atlas Copco underground rock excavation equipment. The audience thinks that modern underground mining equipment results from effective integration of modern machinery manufacture techniques, transduction and IT technology, Atlas Copco not only greatly improves operability, reliability, safety, and automation of individual rigs but also makes it possible to realize system automation and digitalization. Mr. Hao Shuhua, General Manager of Shougang Group Mining Company, said that during the 11th Five-Year Period his company will develop four to five underground mines. He hopes that his company can cooperate with powerful and trustworthy suppliers with complete range of products like Atlas Copco and work jointly for the prosperity of China mining industry.
