Atlas Copco launches a new generation of highly efficient compressors and air dryers

2011-09-07

Wuxi, China, September 7, 2011: Atlas Copco launches a whole new range of oil injected and oil free compressors and air dryers for the Chinese market. The new generation of equipment is a result of continuous investments in R&D and is designed to set a new benchmark for reliability, energy efficiency and air quality.

The Launch

Compressed air finds wide application in most industries - big and small. The three most important aspects for our customers’ productivity are brought in with the new generation of machines. These are:

  • Reliability:
In most cases, compressors are critical to the process of the customers and must run all the time. The new compressors bring in the highest reliability by employing newly developed screw elements with asymmetric rotor profiles. Moreover, the units are designed for local conditions to withstand high ambient temperatures and high dust levels in the atmosphere.

  • Energy efficiency:
Energy typically constitutes 75-80% of the Life Cycle Costs for compressors and saving energy brings big cost savings for the users. It also greatly benefits the environment. Energy savings is also one of the focal points in China’s 12th Five-Year Plan. The compressors and dryers being introduced, cut energy costs through efficient screw elements in the compressors, low pressure drops in the components, employment of no loss drains and many other features. The state-of-the-art variable speed compressors can save up to 35% in energy under the right conditions. The Heat of Compression dryers can bring up to 20% in savings and energy recovery systems can recover almost 100% of the energy that is consumed. The first low pressure screw blowers meant for Waste Water Treatment (WWT) and other applications can save up to 30% in energy compared to many existing systems. Efficient CNG compressors driven by electric motors and gas engines are also being introduced.

"The proof is in the measurement." says Anil Hingorani, Vice President Marketing for the Division, "We now have many compressors which are being tested by General Machinery Product Institute (GMPI) in China and many of them are already certified as 'Energy Saving Machines'. Customers of these certified compressors will receive 10% rebate of their purchases from incentive schemes announced by the Chinese government."

  • Quality of air:
Products like food, beverages and pharmaceuticals require oil free air and nitrogen in their manufacture, to guarantee against oil contamination. Also sensitive processes in electronics, automotive, oil and gas, paper mills and textiles require oil free air and nitrogen. Atlas Copco was the first company to receive the Class 0 certification for oil content according to ISO 8573-1, 2001, for its ZR/ZT range of compressors, by TÜV in Germany. To complement this range which has already been introduced in China, the ZR nitrogen versions are being launched. For other processes which have specific air quality requirements on oil, dust and water content, new energy efficient dryers and filters are being offered.

"The association of Atlas Copco Group with China dates back 85 years, when in 1926, the first Atlas Copco equipment rolled out. Our long presence has seen major investments by the Group in China, with presently 13 factories, 21 companies and more than 5000 employees." states Chris Lybaert, President of Oil-free Air Division, "This launch is a new milestone in this long association. Our technology will allow our customers’ processes to run more efficiently, and help them live up to their environmental responsibilities. It is an excellent example of Atlas Copco’s commitment to sustainable productivity."
